George Inn (The)
It is alleged that this site has held a licence since the 12th century, when monks brewed beers and wines from their own home-grown produce. That would make it one of the oldest inns in England. The Duke of Monmouth stayed here in 1685 when someone supposedly took a pot shot at him. The musket ball is still said to be lodged in one of the window frames. Following the rebellion, 'Hanging Judge Jefferies' also stayed here - erecting a gallows out in the yard! It's certainly come on a bit since then. Each room has all modern comforts yet the rooms retain their medieval character. The inn itself offers good food and beer plus fine wines. Disabled visitors are welcome and special breaks are available.

Stanton Drew was ancient in the days when London was new. The village itself is famous for its standing stones, sometimes referred to as Druid Stones. Actually they're a lot older than Druidic times although no one has really proved who the people were who put them there. Valley Farm is much newer than this, being a modern farmhouse built with all amenities. All bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and are suitable for those with mobility problems. Surrounded by rolling countryside, Valley Farm offers the peace and quiet of the country after the noise and bustle of the city, and makes an ideal base for visitors interested in visiting either Bristol or Bath.

This house must have one of the most beautiful views in Bath. Only a short car journey from the city centre and surrounded by glorious gardens, Monkshill offers only four bedrooms so offers a naturally warm and personal welcome. It's worth a stay just to admire the view of an area noted as being of outstanding natural beauty. Two of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities. There is also a wonderful lounge furnished with antiques for the exclusive use of the guests. When weather permits there is also a real log fire. It should be pointed out that the hotel is closed from the 23rd of December to the 3rd of January.

Glen View
As Glen View is situated close to the Park and Ride scheme where buses leave at short intervals for the city, it makes sense to stay here and leave your car behind. Those with more energy can take a forty minute stroll into the city via the canal path. The house dates from Edwardian times and thus offers the spaciousness associated with that part of the twentieth century. Although only offering two letting bedrooms, they are well appointed having en-suite facilities and retaining many period features. There is a choice of breakfasts and an open fire in the lounge on cooler days. It should be noted that this is a strictly non-smoking establishment. Special winter breaks are offered for three or more nights.

Dorian House
Imposing and very Victorian, this is a hotel that has immense atmosphere and is a must for those with a love of great music as one of the present owners is a musician with the London Symphony Orchestra and no doubt knows what an international traveller expects in the way of accommodation. There are views of the Royal Crescent from the upstairs windows and, although not far from the city centre, mature gardens ensure that the sound of city traffic is almost non existent. All rooms have en-suite facilities and two rooms are suitable for family occupation. For that special away break a four-poster bed is available. The hotel is open all year and prices for special breaks can be quoted for on request.

Marlborough House
A delightful guesthouse situated away from the main road yet within easy reach of the city centre. It is particularly convenient for walking to the Royal Crescent where, it should be pointed out, traffic is no longer allowed. Interestingly, this is one of the few hotels that prides itself on providing cuisine using organic products, including organic wine. Candlelit dinners are offered in its lovely dining room which, like the rest of the house, is furnished and decorated in keeping with its age and ambience. A ground floor bedroom is available for those with mobility problems and for the disabled travelling in company. Fishing can be arranged for those so disposed. Special prices for mid-week breaks are
