Göteborgs Vandrarhem hostel is right next to Liseberg amusement park. Even if the area lacks charm, it is convenient because of its proximity to Avenyn, Svenska Mässan trade fair centre and the Scandinavium indoor arena. Airport buses stop very close by. The hostel is smoke-free and has a sauna and a terrace by a large lawn. Membership in STF or Hostelling International will not give you discounts, but prices are standard for Swedish hostels. To get here take tram 4 to Getebergsäng.

Elite Park Avenue Hotel
The Elite Park Avenue Hotel (formerly a Radsson SAS hotel) is for convenience sake normally called simply Park Avenue. It is on Avenyn, which many people see as the actual centre of Göteborg. This is especially true in the summer when the street gets full of strolling people in the day and partying people at night. Both museums and nightlife are only a very short walk away, as are the main shopping areas of the city. The famous Park Lane bar is in the actual hotel. If you arrive by plane, the Airport Bus will bring you right to the hotel door. Otherwise you can get trams 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8.

Novotel Göteborg
Novotel Göteborg's location in the large red-brick building that used to house Carnegie Porter Brewery is not central, but very beautiful. Right by the mouth of the Göta river, it is surrounded by the old houses of Klippans Cultural Reserve. On the other side of the road is Majorna, which appears to be the most traditional part of the city. If you are travelling by car and ferry, this hotel may be more convenient for you than the central ones. To reach the hotel from the centre, take trams 3 or 9 to Vagnhallen Majorna, or the ferry from Älvsnabben to Klippan.

Pensionat Bagge
This small guesthouse is situated on Brännö, in Gothenburg's southern archipelago. In the summer Brännö is a wonderful island, where bare rocks surround wooden houses with glass terraces and lush gardens. Every summer a ballad festival is held on the island. In spring, autumn or winter this somewhat windy place offers different and exciting experiences. To get here, take tram 4 to Saltholmen, from where a ferry will carry you to Brännö.

Radisson SAS Scandinavia
Upon entering you find yourself in a glass courtyard with a number of restaurants, glass lifts and an artificial waterfall. The old rule 'the longer the name, the worse the hotel' really does not apply here. This large hotel offers absolutely everything you could wish for, slightly lacking though it may be in personal charm. This hotel was until recently called Sheraton and will still be known by that name if you ask for directions. Trams 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 all go to Centralstationen.

Elite Plaza Hotel
Elite Plaza Hotel is relatively new, although this fact may not at first be obvious; it is housed in a beautiful ninteenth-century building. The hotel has quickly achieved a place among the most luxurious hotels in Gothenburg. It also has an excellent restaurant. The location is very good, close to the city center, opposite the Cathedral. There are lots of shops and bars in the neighborhood. You can get here on trams 1, 2, 4, 7 or 9 to Domkyrkan.

Hotel Vanilj is on Kyrkogatan, close to the Cathedral and everything else in central Gothenburg: shops, cafés, bars, clubs and museums. The hotel has individually decorated rooms, each with its own name. Furthermore there is a common room for those who miss the social life of hostels but want to live more comfortably. The bottom floor of the house dating from 1865, is occupied by Kafé Vanilj, where you can have pies and sandwiches.

Slottsskogens Vandrarhem is situated close to Slottsskogen - a large park that is like an oasis in the summer. The building that houses the hostel is not too charming, but the neighbourhood is, with beautiful houses and lots of cafés, bars and shops. Slottsskogens Vandrarhem is also a bit cheaper than most of the hostels in Gothenburg. Discounts are available for members of Hostelling International or Svenska Turistföreningen. Landvetter Airport Hotel
Like all airport hotels, Landvetter Airport Hotel is mostly meant for people who have missed their planes or are catching early morning flights, or for those who are only able to stay overnight in between flights. But if you can afford to stay here, the facilities will probably not disappoint you. Prices are not higher than at most airport hotels. Landvetter Airport Hotel is also an excellent conference hotel with seven conference rooms and all the necessary equipment. There is an airport bus to Landvetter Flygplats.

Barken Viking is an old four-mast ship, refitted to become a hotel and conference facility. The location is perfect, with the river on one side, the opera on another and Nordstan shopping centre on the third. Nice Bed & Breakfast
Nice Bed & Breakfast is more a small hotel than a bed and breakfast, but this does not stop it from being cosy, intimate and welcoming. The neighbourhood is calm but still close to the University, Götaplatsen, the Chalmers technical school and amusement park Liseberg. Hotel Liseberg Heden
Hotel Liseberg Heden is owned by Liseberg amusement park, so by staying at this hotel you will have free admission to the park. But as the admission fees are actually pretty cheap compared to the room prices, this is not the best reason to choose Hotel Liseberg. You could choose it if you want a calm hotel that is fairly central. The low building surrounds a few pleasant courtyards, and the large green area of Heden is next to the hotel. To get here take trams 4 or 5 to Berzeliigatan.

Lilton
Hotel Lilton's English-style redbrick building dates from the nineteenth century. The whole neighborhood of Annedal, full of similar houses, has a very English feel to it. Even though the hotel is only 15 minutes' walk from Avenyn, the area is very quiet, with green open spaces, some great views and not much traffic. The hotel is small but offers good services and standards. To get here, take tram 2 to Handelshögskolan.

Hotel Robinson
Hotel Robinson is situated right between the largest shopping areas in Göteborg, Nordstaden and Fredsgatan, and only 150 meters from the Central Station. Its prices are relatively low, considering the location. You can even choose very cheap rooms, which share toilets and showers in the corridors. There are weekend discounts, but they do not apply to the cheapest prices. If you want to have one night of luxury, suites are much more affordable here than at most hotels. The ground floor holds the well-known nightclub Palace, whose clientele consists of people above 30. Trams 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 go past this hotel.

Delsjöns Camping
Delsjöns Camping is situated a few kilometers east of the city centre, in a beautiful forest area. It is very close to Delsjön, a lake with a beach and canoes to hire, and to Skatås sports centre with football pitches, beach volleyball courts, running and walking tracks. The best way to get here is by car, as you would have to walk to and from the tram. The closest tram stop is Welandersgatan (line 5). The campsite is closed during the winter.

STF Stigbergsliden
STF Stigbergsliden is probably the most beautiful hostel in Göteborg, being housed in an old, low stone building halfway up the steep Stigbergsliden hill. Their backyard is great for socialising in the summer. Unfortunately its prices are a little higher than those of most hostels in Gothenburg, but discounts are available if you are a member of Hostelling International or STF. You can hire bicycles at the hostel, and that is a great way to get around in the bike-friendly city. You can get here on trams 3, 4 or 9 to Stigbergstorget.

Formule 1
The concept at Formule 1 is simply to offer an overnight stay with nothing included except the room. It is ideal for families or groups on a tight budget. The hotel's location is slightly removed to the south of the city, close to a big intersection, and is most easily accessible by car. The area has not got much to offer the visitor. Buses 58 or GL Blå go to Järnbrottsmotet.

Hotel Eggers
The classic Eggers hotel is on a square by the Central Station. It is one of the oldest hotels in Gothenburg, and also one of the most luxurious. The interiors are somewhat heavy and old-fashioned, but also more genuine than those of the luxurious Radisson SAS Scandinavia across the street. Even if you are not traveling by train, the location is very attractive, especially close to shopping center Nordstan and all the shops along Fredsgatan. Gothia Towers
Gothia Towers hotel is close to a whole lot of attractions, especially the Svenska Mässan trade fair and conference centre. Also Liseberg, the largest amusement park in Scandinavia, is close, as is Korsvägen, where a museum of World Culture and a Science Centre are being built. In the other direction you find the Scandinavium indoor arena, the Valhallabadet swimming baths and football stadium Nya Ullevi, all along what the city council wants to make a 'street of events'.The hotel bar on the top floor has excellent views of the city. To get here take trams 4 or 5 to Korsvägen.
