Weißes Rössl
The Weißes Rössl (white horse) dates back to 1410 and is situated in a part of the old town which is known to locals as the Vier-Viecher-Eck, or "four beasts'" corner. The reason for this boils down to the names of the buildings in the area that include the "Red Eagle," "Golden Lion" and "Golden Deer." The Weißes Rössl is a venerable, rustic establishment with spacious rooms furnished in a country-house style. The hotel also houses two restaurants, both of which are renowned for their excellent Tyrolean cuisine.

Sport hotel Penz
Sporthotel Penz is a modern, colorful building close to Innsbruck's airport. The high-rise building offers a spectacular view from the upper floors and especially over the surrounding mountain range. On one of the upper floors there is a rather rare feature: a sauna with a panoramic view and a steam bath. Its first-class rooms are exceptionally light and roomy; business class rooms are slightly less expensive, and their standard rooms are remarkably good value for money. You'll get 4 star comfort in Penz with a beautiful sauna and a good fitness center at a price that usually only buys 3 star accommodation.

Ã-lberg
Ã-lberg is an inn located quite high above the city, half way between the city centre and the raised district of Hungerburg. The hotel has been in business since 1896, and its restaurant is still a fabulous choice for classic dishes at decent prices. Although you cannot see the city from this green area, it is actually only about 11 minutes from the Old Town, yet seemingly far from the city's hustle and bustle. Guests can stay in Ã-lberg in plain but pleasant rooms, some of which even feature a balcony. The Ã-lberg is a real bargain.

Schlosshotel Igls
This 19th century fairytale castle, snow-white and studded with oriels and turrets, was turned into a hotel by the Beck family some 25 years ago. Taken over by the Relais & Chateaux chain in 1985, the hotel attracts both tourists and business travelers looking for a touch of luxury. Hilton Innsbruck
Innsbruck's Hilton is difficult to miss; it is the high glass building 150 metres east of the Arch of Triumph that contains an "Austria Casino." This is the place (the hotel, not the casino) where Innsbruck's internationally respected star physicist Anton Zeilinger met the Dalai Lama. Not everybody spending the night here is necessarily a full-time genius, but the place is fit for the refined and elegant. At somewhat higher than average charges you can get a decent level of comfort and a very above average view from one of the upper floors.

Alpotel
Alpotel is a renowned establishment offering four-star comfort. One of its best-known features is its outstanding restaurant, the Tiroler Stuben. The hotel, which dates from the early 80s, is situated in Ursulinenpassage, a very quiet street, particularly at night. The rooms facing the courtyard are especially quiet. The hotel also offers junior and deluxe suites. Goldener Adler
One of the city's most historically significant hotels, the Goldener Adler dates back to the 16th century. The Greif hotel is a reasonable compromise for people who want to be as close to the centre as possible without being so close to it that the nightly hustle-and-bustle on the streets outside the window disturbs their sleep. In the case of Greif, this means that the triumphal arch is basically right in front of the door, and the old town is a five-minute walk away. For a three-star establishment, the prices are a little bit above the average level, but they are justified by the hotel's central location.

Leipziger Hof
The four-star Hotel Leipzigerhof is a traditional, family establishment in a very quiet Pradl location. The building itself is more than 100 years old and the surrounding district has many different faces; there's quite a romantic ambiance due to the many beautiful old buildings, and Rapoldi Park unfolds directly opposite the hotel. This building has been the premises of the four-star Alpin Hotel since it was constructed in 1984. This modern hotel offers generous rooms and a special treat for the winter - a sauna and a Jacuzzi in which to relax. The theme running through the décor in both the lobby and rooms is a comfortable, wooden, country style with elegant overtones. The surrounding area, Pradl, is very peaceful; nearby you have the beautiful Rapoldi Park and the Tivoli stadium while the Olympic Hall can be reached in a 15-minute walk. The tram stops right in front of the hotel door at Scharfe Eck (sharp corner). Prices are below average for Innsbruck's four-star category.

Bierwirt
The Bierwirt is one of the city's oldest establishments. This inn is located in the Southern Amras district, a part of the city that has retained a very idiosyncratic, village-like atmosphere, of which the Bierwirt is an important part. From the centre, it takes a fifteen-minute ride with the tram and a ten-minute walk to get here. The restaurant itself is well worth a visit; it is certainly one of Innsbruck's best addresses when it comes to Tyrolean specialities in a romantic, rustic ambience. Delevo
The Delevo is the only two-star hotel in the centre of town that might be of interest to travelers who want to stay centrally, but pay rock-bottom prices. The historic building celebrated its 100th birthday in 1997 and has served as a hotel since it was built. It is particularly suited to cyclists; the so-called "Bike House" is not just a place to store bikes, but is also a mini workshop where they can carry out any sort of repairs. Those rooms on the quieter side of the hotel (the same side as the courtyard) mostly have washing facilities in the corridors. These rooms are about EUR14.53 cheaper than those with en suite facilities.

Menghini
The Haller family has run this bed and breakfast for more than 15 years. It is situated in the west of the Amras, actually a residential area, which means it is considerably quieter than other parts of town. Although a bit out of the way, the hotel is close to the Tivoli and the Olympic stadium. There is a really quick bus connection to the center, it takes exactly five minutes to get to the Landesmuseum from here. But, the best thing about Menghini is the value for money you get; the prices are some of the lowest around in the city, and even some of the student halls are more expensive. This is impressive, especially when you consider that the hotel has its own outdoor pool and a small winter garden.

Sporthotel (Igls)
The five-star Sporthotel, like the Schlosshotel close by, is run by the Becks family, well-known hoteliers. Whilst the latter has a rather pleasant baroque theme defined by luxury, the Sporthotel is representative of the more modern, energetic opulence. There are some elements of rustic design (such as the gigantic chequered upholstery), but the main emphasis lies on unostentatious, light-drenched but warmly toned rooms. The hotel's own indoor pool boasts a panoramic glass front, which treats guests to a wonderful view, particularly in winter. Naturally, the sports facilities do not end here; there is always a goods range of set deals and packages for sports holidays, often in collaboration with mountain guides, ski schools, the new golf club or Igls riding arena. The hotel owns a wellness and beauty farm.

Hotel Tautermann
This pleasant one hundred year-old building, with plenty of bay windows, is a real insider's place to know. It lies less than 5 minutes away from the Old Town, but sufficiently hidden away that even some of the locals and taxi drivers would not know the way to the area known as Stamser Feld. The location, on a hill, is very quiet and peaceful; the hotel is in a cul-de-sac, in the old, quaint center of the village-like Hötting. From here you'll enjoy a fabulous view over the rooftops of the town below, especially if you book the single apartment on the top floor which can sleep up to six people. Goldene Krone
A mish-mash of the traditional and the modern, this 400-year-old establishment is located in the very centre of town, right opposite the Triumphpforte. In spite of the brilliant location, the Goldene Krone is a real bargain and by far the least expensive 3-star option in the city centre. The Sailer hotel is a traditional four-star, family-run establishment that has been in business about a hundred years. The hotel is named after the family who has been managing it for four generations; the original Josef Sailer opened the hotel in 1896 and it maintains an excellent reputation. The building itself is classical, in red and yellow, and features some comfortable rooms in typical Tyrolean style. The Charlotte is a four-star hotel under the Garni chain, situated in the district of Amras. Alt-Pradl
The traditional, family-run Hotel Alt-Pradl is located in a quiet spot in the middle of the district of Pradl. Zach
Hotel Garni Zach is the strikingly beautiful, blue building in Wilhelm-Greil-Straße, only a five-minute walk away from the Old Town and even less from the main station. This location is a traffic-calmed area, so it's not only central but also really peaceful. The traditional family establishment was last renovated in 1996 and the friendly, bright rooms offer dependable three-star comfort. The Zach family, well established in Innsbruck, have provided Innsbruck with a well-known figure in politics as well as a traditional butcher's business. The guests of this hotel, then, can look forward to some fabulous Tyrolean bacon or sausage specialities during their stay. The prices may be a little above average, but then again, the location and the condition of the house are too.

Goldener Winkel
About 200 metres away from River Sill, close to the so-called Brückenplatzl, there is a beautiful 400-year-old building with two turrets that houses Pension Goldener Winkel (meaning Golden Nook). Its lyrical name is no exaggeration; this is indeed a picturesque spot, right in the old area of the Pradl district. Moderately priced, the Goldene Winkel is managed by a family, is a real bargain and is well-known in the area. It has been part of the Hotel Garni chain for eight years now. The rooms are of a two-star standard and televisions can be ordered for the rooms upon request.

Maximilian
Several hundred years old, the Maximilian Hotel is situated near the city walls in the Old Town. The spacious rooms are decorated in warm pastel shades and boast period features like lovely bay windows. The quietest rooms are those facing out onto the courtyard and the old town. The hotel is named after Maximilian I, the Habsburg Emperor who oversaw Innsbruck's transformation into an economic and political powerhouse. By the end of his reign, Maximilian was so heavily in debt that he was thrown out of the city and had to spend a night in front of the city walls, not far from where the hotel stands today.

Technikerhaus
The Technikerheim (Engineers' Hostel) is a student hostel for 10 months of the year, but during summer it acts as a summer hotel as most student halls do. This is one of the most inexpensive ways to spend the night in Innsbruck. Of course, the rooms, which can be single-, double- or three-bed rooms, are rather functional and plain (don't expect a shower and toilet en suite). The Technikerheim offers Internet access and a restaurant around the corner, where you can sign up for half or full board if you want to. Children, teenagers and students get a reduction. With the bus that stops right in front of the building it is only a five-minute ride to the centre of town. Open from July-August.

Pension Martinsstuben
The guest-house Martinsstuben in the health resort of Luftkurort Gnadenwald is run by the Unterberger Family and offers real Tyrolean hospitality and excellent local cuisine with home-made produce. The sunny spot on the edge of the forest makes it an ideal starting point for hiking, skiing and mountaineering excursions in summer and winter alike. Rooms are comfortable and equipped with shower/bath, toilet, telephone, satellite TV, radio and balcony. In nicer weather the guest-terrace is open. Sauna and sunbed are also available, as is a playground for children. Furthermore, there is a common room, ski-room, table tennis room and a car-park.

Tourotel Breinössl
Breinößl is a 3-star establishment situated in the middle of Maria-Theresien Straße right in the thick of things. Its name is known all over the country. At about a hundred years old this hotel looks back on a rich history as one of the most renowned hotels in Innsbruck. These days, it belongs to one of Austria's typical large restaurant chains (Wienerwald) celebrated for its poultry and Wiener schnitzel. You'll find the restaurant on the ground floor of the building. The upbeat, lively exterior has some key features such as canopies, mini bay windows and flower boxes. The rooms are plain but comfortable and furnished in light wood. Light sleepers should endeavor to book a room on the far side of the building where they are more likely to slumber peacefully, away from the chaos of Innsbruck's most grand boulevard.

Austrotel
The dawning of the '90s in the east of the city brought with it the development of a green oasis in an otherwise rapidly expanding industrial area. Central Hotel
The Central Hotel, a beautiful reddish art nouveau building, is about 120 years old. Today a four-star concern, it lies only a few steps from the Old Town in a very strict pedestrian zone and yet is almost as central as can be in Innsbruck. The rooms are chic with plenty of natural light and some can be categorized as exceptionally luxurious. There are also two suites and the hotel has its own sun terrace. Ask about the special deals for longer stays. This is a good place to bring kids (various offers are available). The Central boasts a very laudable restaurant that gets its ingredients from the local area. The excellent food is produced by the hotel's own traditional Viennese Café, a very atmospheric place to dine.

The traditional three-star Parkhotel Hall, owned by the Hoskowetz Family, is situated five minutes from the medieval centre of Hall in Tyrol and offers traditional Tyrolean hospitality and cuisine. Nepomuk's Hostel
"Nepomuk's" is a renovated flat in the middle of the old city-center of Innsbruck. Guests can share have a 6-bed dorm room or opt for one of the two double rooms. There's a shared bath and a clean kitchen open all hours. They offer free tee and coffe throughout the day, free bed-linen and towels,and free luggage savekeeping. For an extra EUR5 per load, they'll even do your laundry. A Nice breakfast is included and served in Mundig, the oldest pastry-shop of Tyrol, right underneath the "Nepomuk's". It consists of home-roasted-Coffee, Tea or Cocoa, breadrolls, homemade jam, butter, cornflakes and various home-made pastries. The friendly and helpful staff is always willing to give advice about what to do around town.

Schwarzer Adler Hotel
Located in one of the poshest parts of town, the Schwarzer Adler underwent an elaborate overhaul, both inside and out, in 1998. It now features six ornately decorated suites, with fabulous crystal bathrooms designed by local cut-glass manufacturer Swarovski. The traditional approach adopted by the hotel stems from its 500 years of experience in the hotel trade; the stylishly dressed porter who greets guests in the lobby is the proof. The hotel's restaurant is known far and wide for its exquisite fish dishes.

Dollinger
The Dollinger Inn, the history of which spans centuries, is located on the River Inn's north banks, right at the foot of the Nordkette and at the bridge locals call Kettenbrücke. The inn dates back to the 15th century and has been run by the Prantl family for more than 100 years. The exterior's rich red and brown coloring against the backdrop of the tall Mühlaus Forest and the upper part of Innsbruck creates a positively picturesque sight. This forest, and the Nordkette range of mountains that stand behind it, offer those in the rooms a relaxing view. The interior of the Dollinger is well-kept, with homey details such as a small tiled oven in the in-house restaurant. Outside, there's a very pleasant guest garden and plenty of shade under the chestnut trees.
