Ibis Gerland Pont-Pasteur
This place has been awarded two Stars and a Palme from the Office of Tourism. An integral part of a group of large, modern structures on the banks of the RhÃ'ne, this vast establishment offers numerous rooms of which those highest up have a very beautiful view. The interiors of the rooms are faithful to what one can expect from a hotel in this chain - modern furniture, functional above all else, and more or less sober deco. All the rooms are soundproof, which is notable when familiar with the intensity of the traffic in this part of the city. You will be close by to the Gerland stadium (next to a medical centre) and the A6 and A7 motorways.

Camping des Barolles - Rivet Jean
Located in a wee place about ten kilometers from from the city center of Lyons, this little camp site has no pretentious but is very well situated. A neighbor of the little Beauregard park, it is in the middle of a rural scene which is extremely calm and only a few minutes from the center of St-Genis-Laval. If you decide to go for a walk, go see the Lorette Fort, sadly made famous by the atrocities of Klaus Barbie. From there the view of the valley is magnificent and the surrounding countryside has much charm.

Artistes HÃ'tel
A superb façade enriched with an old-style gable indicates without ambiguity the quality of this place. However, the room prices are far from astronomic, especially when you consider where it is situated: next to the Célestins theater, virtually facing the Place Éponyme(one of the most tranquil of the centre), and near to Bellecour. What more could you ask for? Parking maybe, but the quays aren't far after all.

It is very well kept, offers charming rooms, some of which have a fireplace, the welcome is exemplary and will make you want to come back. An address to remember.

This hotel is in the Vaise quartier, in the north of the town. Relatively far from the centre, it is a fifteen-minute tube ride (or a forty-minute walk for the brave!) to the Place Bellecour. This establishment is relatively staid but nevertheless perfectly satisfactory. Grand Hotel Mercure Chateau Perrache Lyon Centre
This beautiful four-star establishment with an Art Nouveau facade has a more traditionally styled interior. The result is remarkable - the various types of decoration give each room its own personality. The ceilings and muralled woodwork in the communal rooms are splendid and the furniture in the bedrooms is a flood of the nobler tastes in life. Special mention for the Riviera Express bar, entirely decorated in mahogany, which brings to mind the decorations of the celebrated Orient Express. It's also very well-lit (benefiting from natural lighting). What's more it is situated next to the Perrache station, five minutes from the place Bellecour.

Judiciously situated midway between the entrance to Beaujolais and that of Lyon (beside the A6), this place is well appointed for an exploration of the whole of the Lyon region. Akena HÃ'tel
This one-star hotel has recieved the Palme from the Office of Tourism. It's clear that one does not come into this cultural void of Lyon for touristic reasons. The nearness of certain areas of action, as well as the airport and Eurexpo in particular, can navigate you to this area. This hotel is one of the least expensive in the area, in the style of one of the most typical cheap hotel chains. You will find an almost absolute calm here.

HÃ'tel des Facultés
As its name indicates this establishment is near the Lyon 2 and Lyon 3 universities in a quartier interspersed with North -African grocers and student bars. Pretty sober, it is certainly one of the cheapest in Lyon but they offer a quality welcome and it is immaculately clean. Recommended for short stays.

Grand hÃ'tel de la Paix
People who are looking for a hotel in this area which is not too expensive should not be put off by the name of this hotel. It is however a pleasant establishment in an extremely good location. It is located on one of the quietest stretches of rue Edouard Herriot. It is slightly set back from the road itself, next to the small Place Francisque Régaud; it is also only a few minutes walk from the Terreaux and from the banks of the SaÃ'ne.

Ibis Lyon Centre-Perrache
Awarded three stars and a Palm by the Tourist Office. Do you want to eat Lyonnaise food, without going to expensive restaurants or those which describe themselves as 'traditional', but at places which made Lyon a capital of good eating? Then take a room at the Bristol on the peninsula which, as well as offering excellent hotel services is right next door to the Brasserie Georges and la Mère Vittet. Have a good meal and a good rest afterwards.

HÃ'tel Olympique
A façade of a hotel where two main words seem to sum up the image of the place:sobriety and discretion. Behind the smoky frosted glass of the entrance, you will find a welcoming and relatively comfortable establishment which does not much suffer from the noise of the surrounding streets. Let yourself follow Garibaldi street as a guide and you'll arrive directly at 'Part Dieu'. If you prefer more pastoral ambiences, check out the Rue Boileau (behind the hotel) which will lead you to the peaceful Parc de la Tête d'Or.

HÃ'tel du Théâtre
Located opposite the Théâtre des Célestins, this hotel is steeped in theatrical atmosphere. Numerous elements of the décor are reminiscent of stage sets, and theatre-lovers will feel perfectly at ease here. The rooms are cosy and some even have a view of the Place du Théâtre. For those who are not particularly interested in the stage, the centre of town is very close—the Place des Jacobins is less than 100 metres away, and you only have to cross Napoleon bridge to find yourself in the heart of old Lyon, the Saint Jean quartier.

Reine Astrid (La)

Situated on the most chic boulevard of Lyon, this youthful residence can at least offer a standard of more or less high quality. The modern architecture of the building is superb and the interiors are, quite simply, sumptious. The apartments are spacious (or even very spacious) and richly furnished. If you wish to leave this felted ambience to discover the city, know that from here you will be facing the Parc de la Tête d'Or, at least one kilometer from the Cité Internationale. Presqu'île is about ten minutes by car. Prives start at 620F (EUR 94,52) a night and at 4340F (EUR 661,63) a week.

Awarded 3 stars and a palm by the tourist office. One of the three-star hotels that are closest to the Perrache station (about 100 metres away). Even if seen from the outside the building is not that spectacular, this is a very beautiful hotel, which offers you all the comfort you need. The population of this quartier is driven by commerce and other completely different activities. Here you can eat kebabs or have something more refined in the Mère Vittet.

The façade of this two-star establishment is certainly not striking but inside you will find comfort and service, which is just as it should be for the prices they charge. It is situated about a hundred metres north of Perrache station, in a road parallel to the Place Carnot, which links the station and the Place Bellecour. You will be south of the peninsula and therefore close to the centre of town, go 500 metres and you will find yourself in the Ainay quartier, and in the other direction, the university bridge, which leads to the Guillotière, on the left bank of the RhÃ'ne.

Situated facing the old Brotteaux station, this hotel has nothing to envy in the architecture department. This last comment may simply reflect the fact that it is opposite the beautiful 19th century station. As for the hotel, it is a worthy representation of the more majestic edifices in the city: ruonded corners, sculpted volutes and consoles etc. It borders a very chic boulevard, which joins the Quarter of the Brotteaux to the RhÃ'ne quais along the Parc de la Tête d'Or.

Cour des Loges
The hÃ'tel de luxe de la Cour des Loges is made up of several adjacent Gothic and Renaissance houses on the rue du Boeuf dating from the 15th to the 17th century. Most Renaissance houses in Lyons have only one passage linking the buildings together. The Cour des Loges is exceptional in that it has galleries, supported by large pillars, on three sides of the courtyard. Restored at the end of the 80s, it is now covered by a new glass roof. If you can't afford to stay the night in this elegant residence, go to the bar where the remains of a Jeu de Paume game are displayed on the interior walls.
