NH Lagasca
This modern, functional three-star hotel has comfortable, well furnished bedrooms. They're light and bright and feature lots of wood. It's located amongst the smart shops in upmarket Salamanca district, just 10-minute walk from Retiro Park and 20 minutes from the Prado and Thyssen museums. The adjacent Calle Claudio Coello is full of private art galleries. The hotel opened in 1992. The airport shuttle bus is close by as well.

Best Western Carlos V
There's an old-fashioned air about this traditional-style hotel. The bedrooms are decorated with dark wooden furniture, the floors are carpeted and the colours are sober. The staff are both formal and friendly at the same time. It's well situated if you want to spend your time walking around the old town and the historic sights. Even though it's on a pedestrian street with no traffic in between Puerta del Sol and Gran VÃa, it's not very peaceful because of all the noisy shoppers heading up and down Calle Preciados.

Popular with business travelers, this four-star hotel has a convenient location in the city centre close to Chamartin railway station, 15min from the airport and only 10min from IFEMA Trade Centre. Not far from Paseo de la Castellana's business district, this small three-star hotel offers great value for money and excellent service. The spacious bedrooms are attractively decorated in warm colours and the large windows let in lots of daylight. It's not ideal for visiting the tourist sights but it is close to metro and bus links from where you can travel easily to any part of the city. There are plenty of good tapas bars and cafés in the vicinity.
