In rather a quiet and well-to-do neighbourhood, this unpretentious, friendly establishment offers its guests a few welcome extras, such as on-site conferencing facilities. Cordial Theater Hotel
Something in the region of 3,500 cultural events take place in Salzburg every year. The idea of opening a hotel to cater to those tourists who visit Salzburg for cultural events seemed a logical one. The owners of the Cordial Theatre Hotel were the first to dream up and execute this idea. The hotel is not too far from the city centre and the staple venues for cultural events. The friendly staff provide a wealth of information on what is on. All rooms are arranged as suites, with en suite facilities and a kitchenette. Unfortunately, the prices rise by about half during the festival period. There are conference facilities for business meetings.

Restaurant Kendl is well known in Salzburg thanks to its exquisite Austrian cuisine. That said, the hotel in the same building is certainly not in the shadow because of it. All rooms are tastefully decorated and well equipped to three star standards. The service is professional and friendly with the staff always willing to lend a hand. The 500 years old building is located on the outskirts of Salzburg. This provides a great view of the countryside. Coach groups seem to be particularly fond of this place. Probably because buses into the city are regular and what this place lacks in convenience it makes up for in calm and beauty.

Hotel Schöne Aussicht (translated "Beautiful View") is housed in a 300-year-old farmhouse and lives up to its name. This three-star hotel, situated on the Heuberg, is a great vantage point and offers a fabulous restaurant with an open-air terrace and panoramic views. The modern, well-outfitted rooms all have en suite bathrooms and the view applies to most of the rooms too. Unfortunately, the hotel is rather off the beaten track and buses no longer run along this route, so it is only a wise choice if you have a car.

Pension Herbert
The "Guest House Herbert" is a small privately run organisation. If the owner is really called Herbert has to be verified on location, but that's not really important anyway. Fact is, that this little and fairly inexpensive hotel is situated in one of the nicest areas any tourist could wish for! The Nonntaler Hauptstraße winds itself along, hugging the bottom end of the so called Fortress Mountain. This road is not frequently used by cars and therefore very quiet and peaceful. It's merely a 5 minutes walk to the town centre and the fortress itself can be reached in no time via a much nicer back way as well. The rooms have been beautifully equipped by old Herbert, everything a normal tourist needs has been supplied. Enjoy the flair of Herbert's friendly place in the nicest area of Salzburg!

Zur goldenen Ente
Hotel zur goldenen Ente (literally, Hotel of the Golden Duck) is certainly a bit of an insider's tip among the hotels in Salzburg. Even Goldgasse, the road in which the hotel lies, is worth a visit and it is fascinating to stay in a 500 year-old building. For a hotel of its class, it is well furnished and maintained as it has been refurbished recently. The rooms all have en suite facilities and the hotel has its own restaurant, Gasthaus zur goldenen Ente, which comes highly recommended.

Gästehaus Scheck
Guesthouse Scheck lies close to River Salzach, on the outskirts of the rather elegant district of Aigen. The nice thing about this area is that there are still quite a few green spaces left. Volksgarten Park, for instance, is only a few hundred metres away. Apart from a little lake and a rather nice fountain this park also offers a number of tennis courts and other sports facilities. If you stroll along the banks of River Salzach you can reach the town centre in about 10 to 15 minutes. This guesthouse is located very centrally and still lies in a peaceful area.

Altstadt Radisson SAS - Salzburg
This luxury hotel of the best sort sets itself out from the rest by the fact that it is located right in the Old Town. Situated on the Rudolskai by River Salzach, it is about as close as you can get to all the highlights of Mozart's City. There's a great view over the Kapuzinerberg, River Salzach and the Giselakai on the one side, and the ambience of the Waag Square and the Judengasse on the other side. Class paired with the flair of Salzburg's Old Town is a fusion close to perfection. The rooms are luxurious with plenty of wooden floorboards and period furniture.

Hotel Gasthof Hölle
Ironically, Hotel Hölle, whose name translates into 'Hell' Hotel, is situated dangerously close to Salzburg's central cemetery! This shouldn't deter you though, the recently renovated four-star hotel and the affiliated restaurant are known far and wide for their quality and outstanding service, and are great value for money. The city centre can be reached comfortably by bus or car. A few hundred metres away there's Leopoldskron Lake with the famous Leopoldskron Palace, as seen in the movie The Sound of Music. Bildungshaus St. Virgil
Bildungshaus St. Virgil functions, for the most part, as a business hotel for conferences and seminars, although it does accommodate leisure travellers. The building was the result of extensive planning by a contemporary architect, who expertly combined conference space, a restaurant and comfortable accommodation. There are more rooms in a nearby building, designed in a more rustic style. All rooms have en suite facilities and are decorated in light shades. The building itself is flooded with light thanks to the ample use of glass, which creates a sense of well being once inside. Room prices vary quite greatly from room to room and depend on any conferences taking place at the time. It is wise to phone and enquire; the pleasant staff are well informed and glad to help.

Brunauer Zentrum
Hotel Brunauer Zentrum is situated in Elisabethstraße, a small road that runs parallel to Salzburg's main train station, where most public transport lines meet. Although the building might not be very appealing, the hotel has a lovely garden; the management are well informed about the city and its tourism and the rooms are often booked for meetings and seminars. This doesn't mean it isn't suitable for leisure guests though; the rooms are light and spacious and practically arranged, dominated by light colours and elements of warm red. This hotel has a special Health Corner with a sauna, solarium and fitness room. Furthermore guests can try their hand at the typical Austrian Kegeln, a sport similar to bowling.

Lasserhof
From an architectural viewpoint Hotel Lasserhof is certainly one of the most interesting hotels Salzburg has to offer. The building dates from the era of Art Nouveau and was restored bit by bit over the last few years. Now it once again stands proud in all its beauty. The impression created by the exterior is also mirrored inside - a hotel with exquisite rooms and service! It is close to the city centre, yet not too noisy, tucked away in a fairly quiet side street. The Lasserhof combines the past with modern commodities.

This is one of the hotels that sit on the Gaisberg mount. Not surprisingly this is outside the city centre but here guests can lap up the calm and the fresh mountain air. As far as the rooms and the service are concerned, this hotel scores high points and adheres to all things traditional in Austrian hospitality. The restaurant is well known for good traditional cuisine and does not linger behind the standard of the hotel itself. Walking, cycling and long drives are what this area is known for. The Gaisberg Panorama Walk leaves from just outside the hotel.

Schwarzes Rössl, Sommerhotel
Like so many other student residences, Schwarzes Rössl rents its rooms to tourists in the summer months (July until September). The Priesterhausgasse (a road), in which the halls of residence can be found, is right next to the Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Church of the Holy Trinity) and Markart Square. Despite the rock bottom prices, the standard of the rooms is pretty good, although only a few have en suite bathrooms. The best way to go about securing a room is to book well in advance. A better price and a more central location would be hard to find in Salzburg.
